Humphrey Lyttelton


HUMPHREY LYTTELTON (trumpeter, clarinetist, writer, broadcaster, bandleader) was born May 23, 1921 and passed away April 25, 2008. Lyttelton was part of the British revival of traditional jazz music in the 1940’s and 50s. In addition to being a bandleader, he was also a freelance journalist and author. Lyttelton hosted the BBC radio program “Best of Jazz” from 1967- 2007. In recognition of his services, he was awarded numerous Honorary Doctorates and Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Jazz Awards in 2000.
