Biography
DOC CHEATHAM ( trumpeter, vocalist) was born June 13, 1905 and passed away in 1997. A living history of jazz – from playing with early jazz greats like Louis Armstrong and King Oliver in New Orleans through big bands like Cab Calloways, singers Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey and later Billie Holliday. After a period in the 50s working with Dixieland and Latin bands, at the age of 60 he was asked to join Benny Goodman’s Quintet, beginning a late life career resurgence as a soloist, working well up into his 90s and recording several albums.
